What is Watchability Score?

There are dozens of football matches on any given day and no one has time to watch them all. Watchability Score solves that problem by scoring every match from 0 to 100 based on how worth watching it is. Check the scores, pick the highest-rated game that fits your schedule, and skip everything else.

We focus exclusively on the top quality leagues and cups around the world. From the Premier League and Champions League to La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga, and beyond, we cover the competitions that deliver the highest standard of football so every score you see is meaningful.

What Goes Into the Score?

Our algorithm weighs multiple factors to calculate how worth watching a match is. The factors differ slightly between league matches and cup matches.

League Match Factors

  • Star Power: We measure the quality of players on both sides, looking at individual player ratings and how they compare within the league and across all leagues globally. Matches featuring world-class talent score significantly higher.
  • Match Importance: Where does this match sit in the context of the season? Title races, European qualification battles, and relegation scraps all push the score up. A dead rubber late in the season scores lower.
  • Form: Recent results matter. We use a weighted average of each team's last seven matches, giving more importance to the most recent games. Teams on winning streaks or goal-scoring runs make for more exciting viewing.
  • Head-to-Head History: Some matchups just deliver. We look at the recent history between the two teams to see if they tend to produce entertaining, close games.
  • Competitiveness: How evenly matched are the two sides based on betting odds? Two closely matched teams make for a better contest than a guaranteed blowout.
  • Excitement Score: Expected goals and the likelihood of a high-scoring game. Matches with high goal expectancy are naturally more watchable.
  • Decider Potential: Can this match decide something on the day, like a title, promotion, or relegation? These high-pressure moments are unmissable.

Cup Match Factors

Cup competitions use a different weighting that puts more emphasis on the round and knockout context:

  • Round Stage: The round of the cup is the most important factor. A final scores much higher than an early qualifying round. Semi-finals, quarter-finals, and knockout rounds are weighted accordingly.
  • Star Power: Same as leagues. The quality of players on the pitch, both at the league level and globally.
  • Form: Recent form carries more weight in cups since teams often rotate squads, and form can shift quickly in knockout football.
  • Head-to-Head History: Past meetings between the two teams.
  • Competitiveness: How close the odds are between the two sides.
  • Excitement Score: Expected goals and entertainment potential.
  • Combined League Quality: The overall quality of the leagues both teams play in.

Bonus Factors

On top of the weighted score, certain matches receive bonus points:

  • Derby Bonus: Local derbies and fierce rivalries receive a significant boost because these matches carry extra intensity and atmosphere that stats alone cannot capture.
  • Clásico Bonus: The most iconic matchups in football (like El Clásico) get their own added bonus. These are matches that transcend the league table.
  • League Importance: Matches in top-tier competitions like the Champions League or Premier League receive a base bonus that reflects the overall higher quality and stakes of those leagues.

What Do the Labels Mean?

Every match receives a label based on its final score to help you decide at a glance:

Must Watch

Score 85-100. The best of the best. These are the matches with the highest stakes, biggest stars, fiercest rivalries, or a combination of all three. If you can only watch one game, pick a Must Watch.

Recommended

Score 60-84. Well worth your time. These matches have strong reasons to tune in, whether that is good form, meaningful table implications, or quality players on show. You will not regret watching these.

Consider Watching

Score 40-59. Decent matches that could go either way. They may have one or two interesting factors but lack the overall pull of higher-rated games. A solid choice if nothing else is on.

Limited Appeal

Score 0-39. Unless you support one of the teams, there are probably better options. Low stakes, mismatched teams, or little star power mean these games are unlikely to deliver a memorable experience for a neutral viewer.

Why Watch Details

Each match also shows specific reasons why it scored the way it did. Here are the tags you may see:
